North Korean Hackers Infiltrate Crypto Industry, ZachXBT Warns
North Korean hackers have reportedly infiltrated between 345 and 920 jobs in the cryptocurrency sector, according to blockchain investigator ZachXBT. Payments exceeding $16.58 million have been made to these operatives since January 2025, averaging $2.76 million monthly. Salaries range from $3,000 to $8,000 per worker, suggesting a significant embedded presence.
The hackers employ sophisticated tactics, including falsified residency claims, Russian IP addresses, and frequent GitHub profile changes. ZachXBT's investigation highlights a growing cybersecurity threat to digital asset firms, with North Korean IT workers often recruiting additional operatives into compromised companies.
